A little faux never hurt no body… and this fur vest from Forever 21 is def a winter season must-have. I decided to keep the colour tone calm to match the beige fur with this sheer Tiffany blue blouse and dark wash jeans. Paired it off with two-tone beige heels and of course…

STATEMENT NECKLACE!! Elegant, classy and simple, this necklace from Aldo was the perfect finishing touch to the outfit.

Simple is Better

Sometimes, simple is better. I’ve always found the value in purchasing one item I can get multiple uses out of versus one really expensive thing I could only wear once. When it comes to shopping I really focus on spending less but buying better and making smarter purchases.

This look is as simple as it could get. A plain black tee, unique and old-school overalls, black booties and an eye-catching necklace; put it all together and you’re comfortable, fashionable and classy.

“The Warrior Princess” Fall/Winter 2013 Collection

A couple weeks ago I had the privilege of meeting Tanushree Pande, a local fashion designer who is building her brand from scratch. She is the designer and creature of her own shop called The Poplyn Boutique. She has led an interesting life and travelled long distances to get to where she is now. Her multi-cultural background inspires her creations each season and it is evident to see with her use of fabrics, colour and patterns.

Take a look at her latest collection,

From Tanushree herself, “The Fall/Winter 2013 collection is inspired by Folklore with influences from mythological war stories. Some of the characteristics of this collection would be the juxtaposition of different fabrics and silhouettes to create looks that stand out and a play with metallics, studs and texture creating more depth in the garments. A lot of pieces can be mixed and matched together to create different looks.”

Fun Fact: ‘Poplyn’ derived from the cotton fabric ‘Poplin’ represents her love for the pure, simple ways fashion gets affected by the vast cultural presence.

Like what you see? Check out Tanushree’s website, The Poplyn Boutique and follow her updates on Twitter @_POPLYN

I can’t wait to see this young and unique designer take over the Toronto Fashion Week runway very soon!

Lakers Girl

Who said a girl with style can’t love sports?

Never mind the stereotype of what a fashionista is “supposed” to look like, I’ll wear whatever I want and however I want it (and make it look good too).

Today I wore this Lakers tank-top from Bolthouse (men’s department) with some dark wash, bootleg Levis jeans! Finished the look off with my leather jacket and was good to go.

The key to pulling off a look like this is the cut of your jeans and how you tuck the shirt in (hint hint: always from behind)

Never Look Back

Today’s outfit featured this ‘Never look back’ tee, which I accented with a pair of neon yellow jeans, low-rise converses, a cardigan and some gold accessories. It’s always fun to dress up a simple t-shirt and make it stand out more! I love the saying on the top; to persevere and keep going straight for your goals and dreams!!

This ootd was comfortable and perfect for the season’s crazy weather!!

Back to school, back to basics.

The first day back is always the time to show off your summer tan, new clothes and toned figure! While some people stress, I decided to pick a basic, yet fashionable look. With that cool Canadian September wind starting to pick up, I wanted to squeeze in one more dress before the summer really ended.

Today I wore this flowy black silk dress, with a leather braided belt and a jeans jacket. Kept all jewellery simple and threw on a pair of sandals. My signature red nail polish dolled up the look a little as well.

Comfortable, “studious” and as always, chic, today’s outfit was perfect for the start of my 4th year university experience. (even though I’d much rather be at NYFW right now)

What did you wear on your first day of school? Comment or send in your pictures to girlincoutre@gmail.com

Street Fashion: Simple

In the winter, some of us don’t care about style as much as warmth. And in the summer, some of us only care about staying cool, but for fashionistas with style doing both is easy if you just keep it simple.

Check out this PR bombshell Emily Boland, whose style choice is always impeccable (trust me, I would know, she’s one of my best friends). I fell in love with her outfit when we met up for lunch the other day and couldn’t help but deem her Girl in Couture worthy.

Simple, chic and comfortable; Em’s outfit was a perfect 10! The flowy-wrap blouse featured hidden cuts and openings, while the detailing on her jeans shorts was a great choice to doll up the overall look!
